The Christian Community

A collection of house churches

All roads lead to Rome

Both Jews and Gentiles, perhaps with some Jewish leaders

Mutual encouragement

Looking for assistance for planned trip to Spain

Need firm grounding in basic truths of justification and sanctification

I WANT TO SHARE THE GOSPEL

Mom and Dad are talking.  Little daughter comes up to Dad and clearly wants to tell him something.  She begins pulling on his arm.  He asks her to wait.  She goes for a few moments but soon is back, pulling on his arm again.  What might she want to tell him?

THE HEART OF THE GOSPEL

Romans 1:1-7

The promise was kept

Read Romans 1:1-4

Jesus is both true God and true man.  With which words is his human nature referred to?  With which words is his divine nature referred to?

Why is it so important that Jesus was/is both human and divine?

Read Romans 1:5-7

The Lord made Paul his witness to the Gentiles.  Why is it right to call this responsibility “grace”?

ENCOURAGED BY THE GOSPEL

Romans 1:8-17

Power for you and for me

Read Romans 1:8-15

How did Paul show love for these Christians who lived in a place he had never visited?

Why did Paul want to see the Roman Christians?

Explain how the sharing of a teaching from God’s word can be called a spiritual gift.

Read Romans 1:16-17

There was nothing that could make Paul want to keep the gospel a secret.  What trick must Satan pull on us to get us to keep the good news of Jesus to ourselves?

Why is it great news that righteousness is by faith, from first to last?

Read Habakkuk 1:2,3&6.  Then read Habakkuk 1:13 & 2:1.  Finally, read Habakkuk 2:4-5.  What lesson is the Lord teaching Habakkuk?

Why is that lesson so essential for a proper understanding of how we get to heaven?

THE NEED FOR THE GOSPEL

Romans 1:18-32

God’s anger is deserved and effective

Read Romans 1:18-23

Someone who lived his whole life as part of a non-Christian tribe on a desert island dies and faces God.  God sends him to hell.  The man says, “That’s not fair.” How does God reply?

How did people in Paul’s day demonstrate that by nature humans neither glorify God as God nor give thanks to him?

In what way do we by nature do the same things today?

Read Romans 1:24-27

Agree or Disagree and Explain  Since the Bible says, “God gave them over . . . to sexual impurity,” that means that God made them sin.

What is the difference between the judgment described in verses 24-25 and the judgment described in verses 26-27?

Read Romans 1:28-32

Explain how the judgment described in verses 28-32 is even worse than the judgment described in verses 26-27.

What attitude does God want us to have when we see such activities occurring in our day?

How is this section describing God’s anger against godlessness connected with Paul’s desire to share the gospel with all people?

I want to share the Gospel

Because it is power.  Because it is needed.
