    WE HAVE PEACE BEFORE GOD

In what different ways do people try to find peace at this “Christmas” time of the year?

BOAST BECAUSE OF HOPE

Romans 5:1-5

Excited even in suffering

Read Romans 5:1-5

What do young children often boast about?

Often we look at boasting as a sin.  What makes the boasting described here God-pleasing?

Agree or Disagree and Explain  A Christian is better off if he’s suffering than he would be if all is going well.

Evaluate  Rachel feels that hope is not a very good word to describe our attitude toward heaven, because “hope” makes it seem just a bit uncertain.  (See Hebrews 11:1)

GOD MADE HIS ENEMIES  FRIENDS

Romans 5:6-11

A sacrifice beyond understanding

Read Romans 5:6-11

What words or phrases describe what we were when Christ died for us?

What words or phrases describe the consequences of Christ’s death for us?

When is it very important for a Christian to know that Jesus died for those who don’t love him?

Read verse 10 again.  Complete this sentence: “If God did something nice for us when we were his enemies, . . . __________________________.”

What reasons will Christians have to be happy in the future?

What reasons do Christians have to be happy right now?

GRACE RULES

Romans 5:12-21

The curse of sin reversed

Read Romans 5:12-14

Why does death come to all?  How might you use this truth with someone who says that a three-month old child hasn’t sinned yet?

Agree or Disagree and Explain  Before the Law of Moses was given at Sinai, nobody sinned.

Read Romans 5:15-21

Read verse 16 and fill in the blanks:

                        THE JUDGMENT           THE GIFT

# of sins           _____________                      _____________

The result         _____________                      _____________

In verse 18 God says that the “righteousness of life” belongs to all people.  In verse 17 God says that only those receiving the abundance of his grace and the gift of righteousness will rule in life.  Why the difference?

How would you respond to someone who reads verse 18 and says, “It’s not fair that through the sin of one the whole world fell into judgment?”

How would you respond to someone who reads verse 18 and says, “It’s not fair that the righteousness of one brings to the whole world the righteousness of life?”

Using words from verse 21, explain how Jesus reversed the curse of Adam.

WE HAVE PEACE BEFORE GOD

Boast because of hope.

God made his enemies his friends.

Grace rules.
