the law
WAIT FOR FINAL VICTORY
Something exciting is going to
happen in your life. What’s the hardest
part about waiting?
Romans
8:1-17
We
have a flesh but are not in the
flesh
Read Romans 8:1-11
Because of our sinful flesh, the
law’s intended purpose (Romans 7:10) was not achieved. How did life come?
What is the difference between
living in the
flesh (8:9) and having a sinful flesh in you
(Romans 7:18)?
In respect is your body now dead
(8:10)? In what respect will your body
be made alive (8:11)?
Read Romans 8:12-17
Why is “putting to death” the
actions of the body a good image for describing our battle against the sinful
flesh?
Use the pictures included in verse
15 to help someone who says, “It’s got to be horrible to be a Christian. You have to obey all those rules.”
Romans
8:18-25
Suffering
now, rescue later
Read Romans 8:18-25
As children who serve out of love
for the Father, we enjoy another characteristic of children: an
inheritance. Whatever sufferings we
experience now, they don’t even come close to comparing to the glory that is
coming. In what way does creation help
make this point? (Cars on
the roadside at Rocky Mountain National Park)
God says that creation was subjected
to futility. What evidence do we see of
this?
What is creation looking forward
to? What are we Christians looking
forward to?
What truths help you eagerly look
forward to heaven while still being patient?
Romans
8:26-39
If
God is for us . . .
Read Romans 8:26-27
Not only does creation help us as we
suffer from the assaults of our flesh and from the hurts of life. What other assistance has God provided us?
Read 1 John 5:14-15. Why are the Spirit’s prayers so precious?
Read Romans 8:28-30
Why is it helpful, as we are facing
difficult times in our lives, to remember that our salvation is completely
God’s work?
Read Romans 8:31-39
As we fight the weakness of our
flesh and find ourselves sinning against our will (Ro 7), we might
despair. What comfort does God give us?
In what way does the phrase “is at
the right hand of God” add to our joy?
Explain why it can be said that we
don’t just survive in
suffering; we SUPER-CONQUER in sufferings.
Any enemy we might face as we wait
for final victory is something created.
Why is this fact so important to remember?
WAIT FOR
FINAL VICTORY
Serve
your Father while you wait
You
do not wait alone
God
helps you while you wait
