I Am the Truth
I
promise!
How
do I know if you’re telling the truth?
So
many promises are made. So many
promises are broken.
Jesus
makes a lot of promises. How do we know
he’s telling the truth?
Jesus
said, “I am the truth.” Then he proved
it.
Jesus
always kept his word. He predicted that
one of his own friends would betray him.
Judas turned in his Lord for thirty pieces of silver. Jesus said that his enemies would arrest and
kill him. Jewish leaders hung him on a
cross. Jesus promised that on the third
day he would rise again.
Wait
a second. That’s different. It’s possible for friends to betray
friends. It’s possible for enemies to
arrest and murder. It is impossible to
rise from the dead.
Jesus
is the truth. His resurrection from the
dead was the ultimate evidence that his word is always good. Even when he promises the impossible, he speaks
the truth.
What
comfort for you. It’s hard to know whom
you can trust. You can trust Jesus.
What
has Jesus promised? Jesus tells us that
all have sinned and fall short of God’s expectations. We know that. Our
conscience accuses daily. Jesus
promises us that all have been declared innocent freely as a gift of God
because Jesus suffered the death and hell we deserve.
What
has Jesus promised? Jesus tells us, “He
who believes and is baptized will be saved.”
Be confident that Jesus’ blood has washed you clean. Know that in baptism you are dressed in the
robe of Jesus’ perfect goodness. Be
certain that you will be rescued from eternal punishment and enjoy life forever
with your Lord.
But
that’s impossible.
But
that’s what Jesus says.
He
always tells the truth.
Would
you like to discover more promises Jesus has made? Would you like to know what will happen in the future, for sure?
You
will find Jesus’ promises in his Word, the Bible.
Read
it. Marvel at it. Trust it.
It’s true.
Jesus
promises, and Jesus is the truth.
